Shannon Peck MS, LPC
I received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Texas Tech University in 1975 and a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1992.
In addition to co-writing two workbooks on disability & sexuality, I have also taught seminars and workshops for the South Carolina Autism Association, Texas Association for the Mentally Retarded, Louisiana State School in Pineville, numerous private small group home providers, several school districts, and continuing education workshops for LPC (Licensed Professional Counselors), LSOTP (Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider) , MFT ( Marriage and Family Therapists), Professioal Nurses & Social Workers in and out of Texas.
As an LSOTP, I have extensive experience with working with sex offenders and have spent many years facilitating sex offender treatment groups, evaluating sex offenders for treatment and working with individuals accused of sexual offenses.
I have also consulted with individuals regarding sexual issues in the workplace and in public and am involved in mediation between individuals and groups that deal with sexual issues.
In addition, I have worked with many transgendered people and am excited and enthusiastic about finding ways to help them reach any or all of their goals. I welcome the chance to meet new clients who want counseling or evaluation letters. Our goal is an inner body congruent with the outer body.
This is always the hardest part of any description for me. Other therapists have told me that I am a "hoot", will say anything, that I never get embarrassed & that I see things in unusual ways.
Whether this is true or not, I know I find interest in many things, see and use humor in all areas of life, can totally focus on people and what they want or need, have dealt with most things in life that embarrass me, and try to look in many places for solutions to our problems in life.
My "Texan" sense of humor and reality help clients relax enough to be able to feel comfortable dealing with what can be some pretty tense issues.
My practice reflects my love of the atypical and the variety in life. Dealing with many different types of people with different types of problems keeps me fresh and openminded. I try to provide my clients with a non-restrictive treatment process that promotes optimum choices and solutions in as short a time as possible.
